My #CHIPSTARTER Experience

I'm headed to Mt. Rainier

As part of the launch of his new book Capital Gaines, Chip Gaines from Fixer Upper fame launched a fun idea called #CHIPSTARTER. Grateful for those who helped him achieve his dreams, he wanted to help some others achieve theirs. So, he created the opportunity for folks like you and me to submit a 2-minute dream video in the hopes that Chip would choose to get behind it.

There is no dream or no goal too big! Make a video of yourself and tell Chip about your dream, and he just might make it happen. Launch a business, learn a new skill, climb a mountain – anything you’re passionate about is an option!

Well, some incredibly providential events came together on September 29-30, the weekend of my 17th wedding anniversary. Through these events I heard about #CHIPSTARTER and was encouraged to submit a video, which I did. Check it out.

Incredibly, on the evening Tuesday, October 10, I received a phone call informing me that I was a finalist. I was to be in Waco that Friday night, October 13, at Chip and Joanna’s Silobration. I would be brought on stage with additional finalists, and Chip would announce a winner. My wife and three girls went with me, and we were excited to see what would happen.

Once on stage, Chip did his thing!

Then came the big announcement. All three of us on stage were winners! The young couple is adopting a baby. The other young lady is climbing Mt. Kilamanjaro. And I, Lord willing, am climbing Mt. Rainier! (Three more winners were announced the following night. You can see all six videos at chip-starter.com.)

A bit later I was approached by a young gal on Chip and Joanna’s staff. She said, “Chip wants you to sign a football to put in his office!” I laughed and signed it, “To my man Chip. Thanks so much! I’m gonna climb that mountain! Mitch Maher.”

Finally, we went upstairs to take some pictures. My wife and girls were thrilled to meet the stars! (Chip told my girls all about eating the cockroach.)

So, now I’m getting in shape. I’m running, cycling, lifting some weights, and trying to eat better. The pounds are coming off and my excitement (and nervousness) is growing for the climb, which is scheduled for June 18-22, 2018.

Follow my blog as I’ll be posting here and there about my training, my team, and Mt. Rainier.

Blessings,

Mitch Maher

P.S. I wondered if my signed football would really end up in Chip’s office; so, I reached out to one of his staff. He sent this picture back!
